NHL Signing: Minnesota Wild, Jason Pominville Agree To Five Year Contract Extension
Jason Pominville has signed a five-year, $28 million contract extension with the Minnesota Wild, according to the Minneapolis-St. Paul Star Tribune.

- Gustav Nyquist and the Detroit Red Wings are making progress in their contract discussions, according to Mlive.com. “We’ve done a lot of talking in the last couple of weeks,” GM Ken Holland said. “I anticipate getting it done. We’re close on a one-year, talking two years.” Nyquist reportedly would prefer two years, but the two sides aren’t quite seeing eye-to-eye on dollar value so he may have to settle for a one-year deal.
- Dan Boyle and the San Jose Sharks have had discussions about a contract extension, according to CSN Bay Area. The veteran defenseman has one year left on his present contract and is set to earn $6.67 million. Boyle’s agent, George Bazos, said that Boyle wants to remain in San Jose and he believes that he can be an effective player until he’s 40. The 37-year-old blueliner had 20 points in 46 games last year and he accounted for eight points in 11 playoff contests. Bazos didn’t rule out the possibility that something could get done before the start of the season.
- Adam Foote will have his No. 52 jersey retired by the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday, November. 2. He played 17 of his 19 NHL seasons with the Avalanche/Nordiques and is the second-highest scoring defenseman in the franchise’s history with 259 points in 967 games. Foote was also part of the team’s Stanley Cup victories in 1996 and 2001.
- Dallas Stars GM Jim Nill said the Dallas organization has not been involved in any tampering with Pittsburgh forward Evgeni Malkin, the Dallas Morning News reports. “We have seen the reports that have surfaced out of Russia claiming that we have tampered and they are completely untrue,” Nill said in a statement. While on the other side The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports Evgeni Malkin reiterated Tuesday via a text message that he wanted “only to play for Pittsburgh.” His agent, J.P. Barry, told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review that negotiations between his client and the Penguins was “super smooth because both sides wanted to get something done quickly.”
